Commonly video players have the capable of playing the file(any format), sharing, from the local documents, but here is an app called eXPlayer HD which has its own fame doing all these process directly from servers like NAS, Media Support and CloudMe.
eXPlayer is an iPad which requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app was developed by Zhigang Chen who had already launched the lite version of the app, but comparing to this eXPlayer HD there is a lack of features in lite version. You can access this app buy just adding the server from the list then give the server user name and password to connect.
Investing on this app is more worthy as it streams most of the audio/video formats from your NAS server/Windows sharing file server/ FTP server and also it supports CIFS/FTP/UPnP/WebDAV protocols. You can transfer files via USB cable by iTunes and can make use of TV out through this app. It can access even 720p file, and also there is a privacy option whereas you can have pass code lock in this app so that your server files might be safe enough.
It is enhanced with the features like:
- Supports the Dolby HD/DTS audios;
- Supports srt/ssa/ass subtitles;
- Mount as a network drive in Windows/Mac OS X (WebDAV server support);
- Supports WiFi drive and fix anonymous login for SMB/CIFS connection in the updated version;
- Transfer files from NAS or Windows sharing location/FTP/WebDAV server via WiFi.
After I tried this eXPlayer app, I found more complex on it but the designing of the app is good. The online stream guided me how to use this app effectively. I felt the tutorial doc file was very tough to read through, as it is very theoretic.
I found many pros and cons in the iTunes user review for this app, however the app quite good for me. Better go on with eXPlayer when comparing to other video players. I ensure that this app would add more value to the end user. Here you feel the experience of the app >> eXPlayer HD. This app also has iPhone version. I hope it would be helpful for the iPhone users too.
